What are your going rates for service?
Our current going rate for service is $80/hour and $0.75/mile, during regular business hours. Higher rates are applied to services rendered during non-business hours (see below), and for FCC/GMDSS inspections and other High Seas related services.
What are your regular business hours?
Our regular hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 8:00AM to 4:30PM EST, however, if you have an urgent situation, our services are available under extenuating circumstances on weekends and holidays.
What services do you offer?
We offer sales, installation, service, and repair of most marine electronics and electrical systems. The list includes (but is not limited to) Radar, Sonar, Communication, Entertainment, and Sub-system management equipment from all of the top vendors in the industry. We also perform FCC and GMDSS inspections. We are an authorized Warranty Repair point for a number of our dealerships, the extent of service is dependent on other criteria for onboard, shop, or factory repair of equipment. Please see our services and vendors pages for detailed information on the services we provide and the equipment we support.
Do you service in my area?
We operate primarily throughout the Tidewater Virginia area, however we regularly service vessels in all parts of the Eastern Seaboard and along the Gulf Coast. If there is a need, we can travel almost anywhere.
What types of boats do you service?
We service all sizes and types of vessels, from the largest U.S. Navy and Commercial ships to the smallest fishing boats, tugs, yachts, and center consoles. If you need electronics or electrical work, please contact us with your requirements.
How long does it take to install a Radar unit or other electronic equipment?
Unfortunately, there is no "one size fits all" answer for this. The amount of time it takes to install a given piece of equipment depends primarily on the type of equipment and the size of the vessel it is to be installed on. Please feel free to contact us and we will provide you with an estimate based on your specific requirements.
Why can't I install my new electronics myself?
The simple answer is that you can if you feel comfortable making the appropriate connections and are satisfied with the subsequent warranty terms. The long answer is that the major electronics companies (Raymarine, Furuno, Navico) are starting to require that installations be certified by authorized installers and a minimum dollar amount of equipment be installed to qualify for On Board Warranty Service. In some cases, dealer installed and registered products can even get an additional year of warranty at no further charge to the customer. Also, with the new inter-unit communications and general complexity and functionality of today’s integrated electronics, the dealer installation and indoctrination may be a better idea. We will gladly answer any questions so that you can decide the best choice for you!
How long have you been in business?
Seaport Electronics has operated as a privately owned small business since January of 1989, originally started (circa 1970) as a part of what is now Allied Transportation.
Why should I choose Seaport Electronics as my dealer?
Not only has Seaport Electronics been around for quite a while, we are one of only a few Certified Master Dealers (listed with the National Marine Electronics Association) in the United States. Our technicians have various certifications including FCC & GMDSS licenses, various dealer installer certifications, NMEA installer certification, NMEA2000 certification, NMEA Certified Marine Electronic Technician, and numerous factory training on specific equipments.
